Handmade ChroMatus knife with a red handle on an anvil

Family-run knife workshop

Handmade knives with character.

ChroMatus is a family-run knife workshop. We make utility, collector's and custom knives by hand.

Craftsmanship with a clear purpose

First the need. Then the form.

Every new knife begins with a conversation about its intended use, proportions and the character it should have.

We shape its form, materials and finish around the way it will be used — so every choice contributes to one coherent knife.

What we create

Choosing a knife starts with its intended use.

The photo shows the line, color and detail. However, it does not say what the future knife will be used for. That's why we start the conversation with needs, not with choosing a ready-made model.

Hunting knives

The use, way of guiding the blade, grip and carrying form a common starting point. Instead of choosing a shape only from a photo, it is worth describing the tasks for which the knife will be used most often.

Kitchen knives

Everyday work in the kitchen has its own rhythm. The type of activities performed, habits and hand positioning help determine the proportions of the knife before the conversation moves on to its appearance and finish.

Outdoor and camp knives

A short trip and a longer stay in the field mean different needs. A description of a typical trip, the place of the knife in the equipment and the most important tasks helps to determine its form.

Leather products for knives

We consider the case and other leather elements together with a specific knife. What matters is how you store or carry it, the proportions of the entire set, and how the two parts look together.

The gallery shows knives that we have already made. If one is close to you, point out its proportions, color or detail. However, we will start the conversation about your knife with what it is intended for and what is important to you.

Before the first contact, select the part of the offer that is closest to the planned intended use and write down two or three observations from the photos you viewed. Information about what caught your attention and what does not fit your way of working allows you to move more quickly from general inspiration to a substantive conversation about your own knife.

How we work

From idea to finished knife

01

Conversation

We listen to your needs and ideas. We organize requirements and discuss possible solutions without imposing a ready-made pattern.

02

Design and selection of materials

We determine the form and materials that will emphasize the character of the future knife.

03

Handcrafting

Each knife is made by hand in our workshop - with attention to detail and conscious form.

About the workshop

Family craftsmanship since 1965

The history of ChroMatus began in a family forge. Our grandfather was a blacksmith and also made knives - this is where the respect for metal, handwork and objects that are supposed to serve for years was born.

Today, the workshop is run by an uncle and nephew. We combine experience with a new perspective, working on each knife at our own pace and staying close to the craftsmanship origins of the brand.

How a knife is made

Let's start with a conversation

Order a knife that will truly be yours.

You don't need to have a ready-made design. All you need is an idea and a few words about what you need.
